What a high-asset case involves

Colorado divides marital property equitably, which means fairly, not always 50/50. In larger estates, the fight is usually over what counts as marital, what it’s worth, and when it was valued.

Closely held businesses

Valuing your share of a company or practice, and keeping it running while the case moves forward.

Equity compensation

Sorting vested from unvested stock options and RSUs, and what was earned during the marriage.

Real estate portfolios

Primary homes, rentals, vacation property, and properties held in LLCs or trusts.

Retirement accounts

401(k)s, pensions, and IRAs divided correctly with the right court orders.

Separate property claims

Inheritances, gifts, and premarital assets, and the growth in their value during the marriage.

Hidden or dissipated assets

Following the money when funds move, disappear, or get spent before the case is filed.

High-asset divorce questions

Every case is different. These are the questions Denver clients ask most in the first call.

Is Colorado a 50/50 state for dividing property?

No. Colorado is an equitable distribution state. The court divides marital property in a way it finds fair, which may or may not be an even split.

Is my business marital property?

It can be, in whole or in part. A business started during the marriage is usually marital. One you owned before can still have marital value if it grew during the marriage.

What if I think my spouse is hiding money?

Tell your attorney early. Colorado requires full financial disclosure, and there are tools to compel records and trace funds.

Will my prenup hold up?

It depends on how it was signed and what it says. Bring it to your first meeting and we’ll review it with you.
